Outing CANCELLED due to lack of interest!

Here's all the info you need.....

Since 1922, the country has come to the city as farmers, growers, producers and homesteaders have come from all over Canada to exhibit their very best agricultural products and livestock.  The Royal Winter Fair in Toronto continues that legacy and is the largest indoor agricultural event in the world. The Royal features over 2000 agricultural competitions featuring more than 5,000 animals, artisan cheeses, honey, giant vegetables, butter sculpting and more! In addition, The Royal Horse Show is one of the world’s finest equestrian spectacles and attracts athletes from across the planet. Every year, 300,000 people come to The Fair to celebrate the very best food, livestock and horsemanship this country has to offer.

  • ·WHAT to do:Get a map when you get there and wander the fair at your leisure. The timing is up to you and the group you commute with. Attached to this email is a map (you can pick up the 2018 one at Exhibition Stadium) and a list of some of the events for the day.
  • ·RVSP for lunch: Jeannie will make lunch reservations at the Hitching Post restaurant (beside the Horse Palace - see attached map) for 1 pm for anyone wishing to join but will need a headcount by morning of Nov 6 to do so. If you do not wish to attend this location for lunch, there are other restaurants/pubs on site plus a large food court, plus vendors offering free samples you can munch your way through!

o   Lots of opportunity for low-light photography with NO flash. The owners and animals do not like it and in some places flash is not allowed due to safety concerns.  You are encouraged to wander the barns and see the exhibitors at work caring for their animals and prepping for competition.

o   A zoom lens for ringside shooting is a great choice.

o   A fast lens you can shoot wide open is helpful.

o   A monopod is useful since space for a tripod can be limited.

o   Note: Exhibitors may tell you that you need to ask their permission to shoot their animals in the barns etc. Technically you do not as it is a public venue but please be respectful and safe as they move the animals around.
